April Prose – Random thoughts

Having my quilting stuff packed in boxes in the garage has been trying. Why is it that we always want what we can’t have? I don’t really use my sewing machine that often but right now it is all I can think about doing! I finally went hunting in the boxes and found a few treasures like my favorite little rulers. I’m a much happier camper now, like little kid with her blankie!

How do you prepare for retreat?

It has been awhile since I have been to the guild retreat and I am excited. I decided that probably the best strategy for me this time is to not bring anything important or anything that I will have to think very hard about. That has been freeing and exciting. I’m bringing my scrap tub and some neutrals. I’ll do whatever I can with that. I have found a number of scrap quilt ideas that will be fun. Yesterday I decided I had better consolidate a bit so I started sorting and pressing the scraps in the tub, mindless fun. I found lots of goodies – some fairly big pieces, a good mix of colors and best of all some strips so I can make string blocks if I choose to. Then of course I had to go looking for backing and batting…

Thoughts while making the bed…

Is it that we aren’t creative, can’t appliqué or machine quilt or design a quilt or what whatever or it is or is it that we are stuck in a rut and fixated on what we think we can’t do rather than looking for a new way to do that very thing? (In my case machine quilting.)

Thoughts from Sew Day

Why isn’t there a Quilt Show category called “Theme Quilts from Past Years Finally Finished? All kidding aside Quilt Show will soon be upon us. We have a month to think about what we might reasonably get finished and entered. “Reasonably” is another of those tough words. I have relinquished one quilt show theme quilt idea and I’m close to giving up on another. I don’t do well with deadlines. (Is that one of those ruts I’m stuck in?)

More random thoughts

I like cutting on my kitchen counter and being upstairsJ

I miss my own space and being able to spread out and leave messes if I wishL

Even with most of my stuff in boxes I have

·         Finished hand quilting a quilt and gotten it’s binding on.

·         Laid out my current hexagon quilt and figured and refigured the corners to square out the hexagon center. One corner is done and the second started.

·         Found and started very small needle turn appliqué wall quilt. I had forgotten how relaxing needle turn appliqué is.

Today the sun is shining. My cabinets will be back in my studio by end of day and I’m going to retreat tomorrow. Life is good!
